Bergenia cordifolia 'Fire'

The bergenia is an old fashioned plant that is often seen massed in the gardens of older homes. Some of the newer varieties, like Bergenia Fire, have striking foliage, colored stems, as well as taller and more prominent flower clusters. Their coarse textured leaves are a great counterpoint to the many fine textured ornamental grasses, and are usually tinged with red. They also make a wonderful edging plant, providing the needed contrast to a lawn area, and are best when used in large massed groupings. This grouping offsets a mass of grasses and iris on the opposite side of my fountain.
