One of my favorite grasses is
CAREX comans'Frosty Curls', a wonderful hair sedge with a fine texture
that contrasts beautifully with the larger leaves of other plants. It is
shown below forming a skirt for the tall decorative leaves of Plume Poppy
at the entrance to my shade house. Carex reaches only one foot high and
slightly wider, with fine green leaves that have curled or ruffled tips.
The leaves have a light green color that fades to beige as they mature.
It does well in sun or shade, and is especially nice in the rock garden,
along pathways, or used in mass at the front of a bed. An occasional 'combing'
to rid the plant of older leaves is all that is needed!
