Graham Thomas Rose with Phlomis
You can't celebrate Summer without a rose! One of my favorites
is the yellow 'Graham Thomas', which in this picture seems to form a giant bouquet with Phlomis russeliana in the foreground.
Roses come in all shapes, sizes and colors, but the easy care varieties can give the most pleasure. I especially like the large species forms
and shrub roses, but you should only use them if you have plenty of room. When I plant roses with vigorous underplantings such as Phlomis, or
Geranium macrorrhizum, I allow them to get taller by pruning at higher levels than I normally would. I also enjoy roses planted with other perennials
in a more informal setting.
