About the Designer:

My childhood was spent in rural Brazil amidst native Araucarias, native Fuchsias, tree ferns and much more. In the early 1980's I obtained a degree in art education while working as a graphic designer. Marriage took me to Lisbon, Portugal, where I had the opportunity to learn tile painting under the direction of a tile master. My husband's work brought us to Portland, Oregon in 1987, where I started cultivating roses while painting tile murals- and generally falling in love with the Pacific Northwest and its gardens and landscapes.

The desire to combine my passions for tile painting and for gardening took me to Portland Community College for the Landscape Design Certificate (2004-2007). The idea of Lapis Lazuli was soon born. My goal is to design gardens that will fulfill your dreams while fitting your budget. If you wish I will be delighted to incorporate tile accents in that garden. If you choose to feature tiles, you have the choice of using my hand-painted Portuguese- style custom designs (or reproductions), or using tiles from other sources and styles.

Influenced by my childhood surroundings, I am particularly fond of integrating principles of environmental sustainability. For Pacific Northwest projects, I will gladly offer you suggestions for the use of native plants, or plants that are specifically drought-tolerant and disease resistant.

Tiles as Landscape Elements:

Ceramic tiles may add exquisite daring and novelty to a landscape design. The use of tile accents and features in landscape design is in fact common in Europe, where hand painted tiles are an integral part of gardens and yards, as well as interior features.

My Fees:

  • CONSULTATION ONLY: $60 per hour - averages 1-2 hours
  • FULL LANDSCAPE DESIGN: Full Planting Plan for front and backyard averages $1200 for standard size lot (50’ x 100’). Large lots and acreage may have fees adjusted accordingly.
  • PARTIAL LANDSCAPE DESIGN: Full Planting Plan for front or back yard only are also available at a reduced rate.
  • PER HOUR RATE $60 per hour for garden design only.
  • TILE ACCENTS AND PANELS: Tile accents and panels in the $300-$3000 price range can be quite effective. Prices vary widely with characteristics such as panel size and design originality and complexity.
