Equipment and supplies: list to be given out first class (see link at bottom of this page)
Course Objectives: To give students a broader understanding of the design process, the class will complete two full designs: the first will be a simulated commercial design on campus, the second will be a full residential design with a real client in the local area. We will touch on the historical evolution of landscape design, will delve into both the designer-client relationship and the designer-contractor relationship, and will concentrate on spatial development as well as the importance of detailing.
Grading: Design Process will be a "pass / no pass" course. Evaluation will be based on a research paper, and two final design projects. These items must be submitted in order to pass the course. If you require specific instructional accommodations, please notify me early in the course.
Late projects: Students not able to make deadlines due to illness, business or family obligations should arrange for extra time with the instructor.
Incompletes: Will be given to those students unable to complete course work due to unforeseen circumstances. The student is responsible for arranging with the instructor for incompletes, which must be made up in 3 quarters from the date given.
Field
Trips: two Saturday field trips are planned, a garden tour and
an analysis of the final design project site. While attendance is not mandatory
it is highly recommended. If a student is not able to attend the site-analysis
trip arrangements should be made for an independent visit at another time
convenient to the homeowner.
