About the Designer:

I grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil playing in my grandparent’s garden among a row of blue agapanthus and tropical foliage. At the age of 11, I documented the garden by photographing it with a cheap Kodak camera.

I spent most of my years in Sao Paulo, a city of more than 15 million people, living in a small apartment with no garden, but lots of indoor plants to enhance my environment. During that time, I obtained a bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Sao Paulo. I already knew then how plants could add to our quality of life.

In 1992, I came to the U.S. and married my husband in Memphis, Tennessee. Seeking a new start, we relocated to Portland, and I immediately became fascinated by the plant diversity of the Northwest. I completed the Landscape Design Certificate Program at Portland Community College – Rock Creek in 2002. In 2001, while still in school, I began working for Garden Aesthetics under Linda Engstrom’s mentorship program.

Adriana Berry Landscape Design was established in 2001. Since then, I have been designing a diverse range of residential gardens throughout the Portland area. I am a listener, so I pay attention to your needs and desires. I use these to guide us in the creation of your unique outdoor space. It is a collaborative process between you, me, and sometimes a landscape contractor. Each site has positive and negative attributes, and I love working with the challenges each project offers. I am a quiet, detail oriented person who likes to observe, process information and think things through before presenting solutions to clients. Throughout my life, I have always had an artistic eye, and have pursued a sense of beauty, balance and harmony. These are important elements that I utilize today to create functional yet aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces. I have a passion for stunning plants, and find great satisfaction in achieving compatible plant combinations. I love to learn and share my knowledge about new plants: It is an exciting and ongoing process.

    • My Philosophy:

    I believe that there is an intrinsic correlation between the environment we live in and our emotional and physical health. Beauty is a powerful source of inspiration that enables all of us to be more creative in life. It feeds our souls. It replenishes our energy. A well designed garden enhances the environment we live in, creating a sense of place, intimacy, and even a sense of community. The best gardens happen when the architecture, the garden, and the surrounding environment are completely integrated.

    Landscape design is about creating beautiful and inviting outdoor spaces while respecting our earth and its resources. A beautiful garden starts from the ground up, and healthy soil is the foundation for exuberant plant growth. Through environmentally friendly practices and use of native plants, we minimize maintenance issues and protect the environment. I look forward to working with you.

    My Fees:

  • CONSULTATION ONLY: $65 per hour
  • FULL LANDSCAPE DESIGN:Full Planting Plan for front and back yard at $1200 -1500 for standard size lot (50’ x 100’). $1800 and up for large lots and acreage.(Prices depending on site conditions and complexity of project)
  • PARTIAL LANDSCAPE DESIGN: Full Planting Plan for front or back yard only at $600 -1200.
  • PER HOUR RATE $65 per hour. Will facilitate installation with Contractor, create Maintanance Reports, help with plant selection
